Can you fall in love deeply to someone who’s about to die? Fly High is an old (2006) melodrama Korean movie. A story of a man who truly falls in love with a woman whose life is limited because of an incurable disease.

It all started when Min-hyuk (Ji Hyun Woo), a man that loves dancing and comic books, met this daring lady, Mi-hyun (Im Jung Eun), in men’s room. It is strange that they meet accidentally in a men’s toilet room at all times. By the way, Mi-hyun goes to the men’s room because women’s room is fully occupied and she doesn’t want to wait in a long line. Min-hyuk’s admiration developed each time they meet in men’s room that made him like he was under with Mi-hyun’s spell.

Min-hyuk has never had a serious relationship until he met Mi-hyun. He started to court, accompanied her in going home at night, went secretly in school at night just to fill her locker with roses and woke up early to clear her pathway after a snowfall.

However with all his efforts mentioned, Mi-hyun pretended that she doesn’t want to be Min-hyuk’s girlfriend and rejected him for she knew that her time is short. When she’s about to leave Korea and go to United States, the only word she left for Min-hyuk was “Sorry”.

Two years had passed and Min-hyuk was having a hard time to forget Mi-hyun that built him anger and pain. Will he forgive her when they meet again?

Mandate: Mission from the Gods

In the past decade, there had been a continuous serial rape murder cases in Whagoklee village which is almost now in ruins. The police can’t find a clue regarding on this case and the number of villagers residing in that town were rapidly decreasing. The police decided to abandon the case and reported it as nothing had happened for the past two years.

Until one day when an incident happened that two college women were raped and murdered, the villagers were frightened and startled. Choi Kang (Jae Hee) known as one of the famous and best ghost hunter in Korea came to the village to investigate the crime scene. He insisted that it was not by an evil spirit (an incubus) not by a man. However, the police squad leader Lee (Shim Won-cheol) laughed as if it was a joke, told him to go away and never come back in town.

Journalist Shin (Yoo Da-in) came to the village to know the incident. She was destined to become a Shaman but she refused and chose to become normal. The priest who had helped her to become an ordinary person gave her an old camera that can trap a spirit with just a single shot of it. Because of the camera, Shin also became a famous Korean ghost hunter but no one knows that Journalist Shin and Famous ghost hunter Shin are one.

These two persons, Choi Kang and Shin, only knew who’s responsible on this incident. Can they get to the bottom of this crime and capture the ghost criminal?

Hwang Jin Yi, the Movie

Famous Korean actress Song Hye-kyo played the role as a well-known 16th century Gisaeng, Hwang Jin Yi (the Movie). Jin Yi is the most legendary courtesan of th Joseon Dynasty and noted for her dazzling beauty, clever and remarkable intellect.

Before Hwang Jin Yi became a Gisaeng and changed her name as Myeong-wol, she was a daughter of a noble family and educated as a well upper-class woman. She had a close friend, Nom Yi (Yoo Ji-tae), a slave in the house who was punished and expelled from her house because Jin Yi was so curious on what’s on the streets and swayed Nom Yi to bring her outside to take a look around.

When both now have grown up and Jin Yi’s father passed away, Nom Yi came back to the family as a steward to be near with his beloved. Jin Yi was about to marry a very rich man but it was cancelled right away when news spread out that she was the daughter of a maid in Hwang’s house.

Her life changes when she found out that her mother became a Gisaeng after leaving the house. Her tragic life begins and she struggles a lot because of her social status. Whether she just keep silent and pretend that no one knows, or became a slave or Gisaeng just like her mother.

Hwang Jin Yi, the movie was totally different from the Korean drama series which was lead by also a popular young actress, Ha Ji-won.

Another Korean drama and Fantasy with 36 episodes that tells about Jumong’s Grandson, Moo Hyul, who was born with a curse to kill his parent, siblings, son and destroy Goguryeo. Song Il Gook portrayed Moo Hyul who had also portrayed Jumong in "Jumong - Prince of The Legend" in 2006. His love interest is Princess Yeon and a skilled physician of Buyeo portrayed by Choi Jung Won.

The chief sorceress of Goguryeo informs King Yuri (Jung Jin Young) to kill his own son, Moo Hyul, but he was powerless of doing it. He instead instructed his eldest son, Crown Prince of Goguryeo, Prince Hae Myeong (Lee Jong Won) to bring his child away to detach all his ties with Moo Hyul. Prince Haemyeong could not stand on throwing away his baby brother. So, he asked his love interest, Hye Ap (Oh Yoon Ah), the chief decorator of King Jumong's burial chamber, to bring up Moo Hyul and King Yuri is unaware of this. Prince Haemyeong went back to peek Moo Hyul when he become an adult giving him a chance to become a soldier of Goguryeo. The brothers wish is to slay King Daeso of Buyeo.

Whispering Corridors

A 1998 South Korean horror movie set in a fairly typical all-female school in Korea, called Jookran High School for Girls. The story started on the night before the first day of the new school year. A female teacher called Mrs. Park was nicknamed by her students as an “Old Fox” because of her cruel treatment of her students. She discovered a strange and creepy regarding of her late pupil of the school called Jin-Ju who committed suicide in the school’s art classroom 9 years ago. She tried to call her new colleague teacher Hur Eun-young (Lee Mi-Yeon), saying ““…Jin-Ju is undeniably dead… but she’s still attending her class!”. While she was on the phone, she was attacked, murdered by a ghost and left hanging in the schoolyard. Eun-young was a former student of the school and the best friend of Jin-Ju.

On the next day, Yoon Jae-Yi (Choi Se-yeon) waits for her acquaintance Lim Ji-oh (Kim Gyu-ri), who has the ability to call the spirits, went early in the school and found Mrs. Park hanging. The rude and hard-hitting Mr. Oh, nicknamed by his students as Mad Dog, is the substitute of Mrs. Park, warned the students to zip their mouth regarding Park’s death. It disturbed Ji-Oh so much that she feels the need to paint a portrait of Mrs Park’s death. When the Mad Dog discovered the painting, he prohibited Ji-Oh to use the art classroom.

However, Jae-Yi encouraged Ji-Oh to continue painting and she suggested to use the abandoned art classroom, a place where Jin-Ju committed suicide.

Before and After: Plastic Surgery

A 12-episode funny Korean drama series aired on MBC last January 6, 2008 to March 30, 2008. The title was previously known as Cosmetic Surgery. Teens and young adult women will find the story interesting for it focused on a plastic surgery setting. You can learn a lot of lessons here and you will understand that there are 2 types of doctor – a business doctor and a compassionate doctor.

The plastic surgery clinic was about to be taken by loan sharks and Han Geon Soo (Lee Jin Wook) worked hard to fix this financial problems by getting more clients. He’s the son of the clinic owner and takes over to manage the clinic after his father passed away. A former doctor of a well-known German hospital, Choi Yong Woo (Kim Sung Min), returned to Korea just to give his gratitude to Geon Soo’s father by helping the clinic stand up again. The love triangle scene started when a newly hired innocent-looking nurse, Hong Ki Nam (So Yi Hyun), came in the clinic. The scene became more complicated when Yoon Seo Jin (Jung Ae Yun), the clinic manager with perfect beauty done by plastic surgery, revealed her true feelings to one of the doctors.

Those who underwent plastic surgery have positive and negative issues on why they seek plastic surgery operation. On the positive side: to get a good job, to be famous or a star, to get notice by special someone. While on the negative side: for committing crimes or deceive others and to please someone even if they don’t like.

If you are planning for a cosmetic surgery, try to watch this drama first. I guess you will have some second thoughts after watching this series. This drama is mixed with laughter and tears. It touches and gives lesson to not only women viewers but as well as to men.

While watching Iljimae, I observed that the female lead, Han Hyo Joo (Eun Chae), had a resemblance to another actress on the Philippines named Cristine Reyes.

Before she became an actress she joined into a reality talent TV show, Starstruck, on GMA-7, while, Han Hyo Joo was discovered at a teen beauty pageant in 2003.

Cristine was previously a cover girl of a Philippine men’s magazine, FHM, August 2007 edition.

Han Hyo Joo was awarded as 2007 Korea's Best Dressed.

Cristine is a 7th placer FHM Philippines Sexiest 2008 and she will be posing sexy again to another men’s magazine this December 2008 on Maxim Philippines.

Iljimae - Synopsis

Iljimae is another drama series based on a fictional character Robin Hood, like Hong Gil Dong. When he was 8 years old, he had witnessed silently the killing of his father. His father was a good nobleman and a loyal supporter to the emperor. After his father died, he changed his name from Geom to Yong and adopted as a son by Swe Dol.

Yong grew up as a hopeless gangster in the marketplace but later on, he remembered slowly his past and investigated the reason of his father’s death. All he found out was the engraving made on the sword. Then, he decided to turn out to be a bandit in order to find the sword’s owner. But instead, he became Iljimae (Lee Moon Shik), a black masked thief who steals from corrupt government bureaucrats then give it to the poor people.

Eun Chae (Han Hyo Joo), absolutely nothing like among the other noble daughters. She was clever, energetic and very attune to current events. The first person who established a hotel in Joseon that made a large amount of cash then, used those financial gains to help the poor citizens. From the time when she heard about Iljimae, she was captivated and later on they met each other.

Shi Hoo (Park Shi Hoo), son of a poor mother, Dani, then, soon after met his biological father, Byun Sik, at the age of 9. He was in danger and almost about to kill by his father but her mother went hurriedly to Byun Sik’s house and told him that truth that Shi Hoo was his son. Even though his life became wealthy, he was still bullied by his step brother Shi Wan and handles all the household chores. This made him become hopeless and long for acceptance of everyone. Capturing Iljimae was his way out to misery. He even fell in love with Eun Chae, daughter of Byun Sik which means Eun Chae is his step younger sister. When he found out that Eun Chae’s love was for Iljimae only, his chase on capturing Iljimae was more intensified.

Bong Soon (Lee Young Ah), a fraud expert together with her foster father, Kong He. Both never miss any argument with each other and Bong Soon always saying that her foster father was good for nothing old man. But they both depend on each other and their team is matchless in trickery. Bong Soon tried to cheat Yong (Iljimae) but instead she got caught by him and became as his hostage until she’ll repay all her debts. She had feelings with Yong but Eun chae also had feelings. This condition will lead her on to conflicting emotions.

Sweet Spy - Synopsis

Usually, Sun-ae always borrows a pen to a traffic violator and forgets to return it to the owner. So she borrowed a pen from Yoo-il to write up a ticket. Yoo-il’s pen is not just an ordinary pen. It is a special gadget and he has been keeping this for some reason.

Han Yoo-il lately realized that his pen was not given back to him. He ran after Sun-ae but never reached on her. Later on, Yoo-il plotted to kidnap Sun-ae and also planned to end up her life after getting back the pen. Fortunately, Yoo-il secretly fell into Sun-ae’s charm and hired her as a spy.

Meanwhile, Kang Jun (Lee Joo Hyun), confidant of Sun-ae’s husband, was newly reassigned to the Criminal Investigation Department. Hong Gil Dong - Synopsis

Hong Gil Dong (Kang Ji Hwan) is somewhat based into a fictional character Robin Hood. He felt abandoned by his own high ranked minister father in Korea for his mother was only a maidservant. When his mother died, he had nowhere to stay; then, a monk sheltered him and trained him martial arts. He’s ready to defend his fellow commoners from noble citizens’ discrimination. He has a noble beautiful admirer, Seo Eun Hye (Kim Ri Na), daughter of a high ranked minister, yet he refused because of his status.

At the marketplace, he met Heo Yi Nok (Sung Yu Ri) who had just returned to Korea from China with her grandfather to sell extraordinary product of medicine. She and her grandfather were clueless that long ago, she was a daughter of a high ranked minister and her parents were killed by assassins. But luckily, she escaped from the assassins and an old man (grandfather) carried her away to Korea.

Yi Nok accidentally bumped Lee Chang Hwi (Jang Geun Suk) in the market. Lee Chang Hwi had also returned to Korea from China just to get back his throne from his half brother emperor. Her mother was killed by the armies of his half brother by trapping her in the palace with flames.

Three characters were put into a love triangle situation. Who will win Yi Nok's heart? Will Lee Chang Hwi reclaim his throne? Will Gil Dong succeed in fighting for the injustice in his society that separated people into upper class and common people?

Wang Credited 4 God - Episode 1

2000 years ago, the son of god in the heavenly world, Hwanung, cared the world so much. One day, he came down to earth with Cheong-Ryong (the Blue Dragon or Cloud Master), Baek-Ho (the White Tiger or Wind Leader) and Hyeon-Mu (the Black Turtle-Snake or rain Master). Hwanung built an altar under the tree of Taibai Mountain and called it the Sacred City. He educated the nation and a lot of people from different tribes came in the city and followed him.

The Tiger Tribe, Ho-jok, ruled all over the land at that time lead by Gajin (Moon So Ri), the most powerful fighter and has given fire power by Joo-jak (the Phoenix). Her special power killed a lot of tribes except Ung-jok’s (Bear Tribe) lead by Se-o, an outstanding archer. Se-o was so kind and she was like a mother protecting her people and cried for their sufferings. Hwanung was touched when he saw Se-o weeping and he made up his mind without saying anything to end up this war. He tried to persuade Gajin to end up the war but she was so stubborn and fully attacked Hwanung with sword of fire. However, Hwanung gathered and sealed all the fire power in a form of balas.

Gajin lost her power and felt broke but Hwanung helped and healed her injuries. Because of Hwanung’s kindness, she started to convince her people to stop this war. On the contrary, the Tiger race’s elder and community ignored her. So she killed anyone who disregards her.

Gajin came to Hwanung’s place but Hwanung had already given the fire balas to Se-o and became the new Fire Guardian. It is the first time in history that the four gods started to work in four places (East, West, North and South). Se-o liked Hwanung since he came into this world. Hwanung looked and accepted her love without saying anything. Hence, Se-o carried Hawnung’s baby. But Gajin could not accept because she abandoned everything she had for Hwanung. She swore that if she can’t be with Hwanung in this recent life, she will be with him in the next life.

When Se-o’s baby was born, the Tiger Tribe attacked the Bear Tribe and took the baby as hostage for the reason that she wanted to see Hwanung. Se-o chased Gajin for getting the baby back. Se-o did not want to see her baby die and she could not control anymore the Fire Guardian’s power because of the wrath she felt. When Hwanung saved the baby from falling, it was too late. Se-o transformed into a Black Vermillion Phoenix and started to destroy everything. Hwanung summoned the Blue Dragon, White Tiger and Black Turtle-Snake to stop the Black Vermillion Phoenix but they could not hold it because it’s too powerful. Hwanung had no choice but to kill Se-o.

Gajin wanted to be with Hwanung but she got nothing. All she felt was emptiness and killed her own self. Hwanung sealed the four gods into a form of sacred stuffs and left the world. The 4 gods will be awakened if the King of Jushin will be born, the reincarnation of Hwanung. 2000 years passed, different tribes are waiting for his existence.

Wang Credited 4 God or Legend is a Korean drama depicts the existence of the 19th king of Goguryeo. The founder of Goguryeo, Jumong, started the kingdom with four gods: Baek-ho (the White Tiger), Cheong-ryong (the Blue Dragon), Hyeon-mu (the Black Turtle-Snake) and Joo-jak (the Phoenix). Jumong married Soseono and adopted her two sons from her first husband. Because Jumong’s son from his first wife came to Goguryeo and became the Crown Prince, Soseono voluntarily moved to South with her sons and established Baekje. This is the reason why Baekje and Goguryeo were known as “brother countries”. The tie between the brother countries was broken and became worse because The king of Goguryeo was killed in their own battle. The four gods cut off their communication from the society and observed them.

One day, Ju-ahn, “Hyeon-mu, the Black Turtle-Snake”, witnessed two stars go sky-high. The star from the palace of Baekje was prophesied as the birth of “Su”, later known as King Ah-shin and the other star from Goguryeo, was prophesied as the birth of Dam-deok (Bae Yong Jun), later known as Gwang Gae Toh Dae Wang. The drama is all about the four gods looking for their master, Gwang Gae Toh Dae Wang, a specialist in techniques and loved the woman, Sujini (Lee Ji Ah), also loved by the ruthless King Ah-shin.

Dam-deok or Gwang Gae Toh Dae Wang was the 19th king of Goguryeo lasted from 37 B.C. to 668 A.D. He became the Crown Prince at the age of 11 and became King at the age of 16. During his reign, Goguryeo was the most authoritative kingdom in East Asia even after 400 A.D. the Chinese dynasty could not conquer Goguryeo. He seized over a hundred of castles and over a thousand of villages. In 396 A.D., he attacked Baekje and dominated the northern part of Han River. Unfortunately, he died at an unexpected age of 39.
